What is the difference between Ephedrine sulfate and Ephedrine HCL?

Ephedrine sulfate and Ephedrine HCL are both used for weight-loss and muscle gain, they have similar health effects and they both contain the same active principle, as their names show it. Still, there is one difference between Ephedrine sulfate and Ephedrine HCL that influences the popularity and effectiveness of the two compounds!

Ephedrine sulfate is actually 77% Ephedrine by weight, while Ephedrine HCL is 82% Ephedrine by weight. This means the hydrochloride version is slighter stronger, 20 mg of Ephedrine HCL being equivalent to 25 mg of Ephedrine sulfate.

The HCL version provides 20.5 mg of pure Ephedrine in each 25 mg serving, while the sulfate version only delivers 19.25 mg of pure alkaloid per serving. So if you want a more powerful weight-loss aid and energizer or if you’re looking for a faster and more efficient asthma treatment, you should choose a product containing the hydrochloride version.

Although this is the main difference between Ephedrine sulfate and Ephedrine HCL, there are some other aspects that vary when it comes to dosage. The HCL compound is an alkaloid derivative coming from the Ma Huang shrub, the typical dosage for this active principle being 8 mg per serving. Most users manage to shed off pounds by taking a single dose of Ephedrine HCL per day, alone or in combination with caffeine and aspirin in so-called ECA stacks.

Ephedrine sulfate on the other hand is also an alkaloid active principle but it’s less powerful so it provides less impressive results than the hydrochloride version. To obtain the same weight loss in the same period of time using the sulfate version of the drug, you have to take larger daily doses.
