This is one of the most misunderstood aspects of Ephedra. Yes, the Federal government has put a national ban on ONE form of Ephedra - Ephedra Sinica.
The two most popular forms of Ephedra have been Ephedra Virdis and Ephedra Sinica. Ephedra Virdis is a derivative of the Ephedra plant, often going by the alias “Mormon Tea”.
The FDA HAS NOT banned the use of the Ephedra plant altogether, only one very specific form of Ephedra, Ephedra Sinica.
What is not banned? Ephedra plant itself, such as Ephedra Viridis.
What is banned? Ephedra Sinica, also known as Ma Huang, a type of Ephedra plant
