White Willow Bark in Diet Pills

White Willow Bark
Since its mention in the fifth century by Hippocrates, white willow bark has been used for its medicinal qualities. After many attempts, salicin was isolated from the white willow tree. Derived from salicin, salicylic acid is the main ingredient in aspirin.

White willow bark has the ability to reduce pain. In addition, it is a strong anti-inflammatory. This is of particular use to those who are physically active. After repetitive and difficult work outs, many people suffer from sore, swollen joints. White willow bark can reduce this inflammation as well as control the pain.

Research suggests white willow bark may be more effective than aspirin due to other active compounds found in the bark.  In Europe, The German Commission E has endorsed white willow bark in much the same way we use aspirin, for headaches, arthritis, fever and pain.

Some people are not able to tolerate aspirin due to its irritating effects on the stomach lining.  While white willow bark does contain salicin, a main component of aspirin, white willow bark itself does not seem to be as irritating. This may be due to the fact that salicin only converts into acid form after absorption into the stomach. In addition, white willow bark contains tannins which act as buffers that protect the stomach, while aspirin does not.
